North Shore Rhythmics gymnasts Laura Zeng and Jazzy Kerber became the 2014 junior and senior national champions this weekend! Laura also won the junior hoop and ball gold medals, and Jazzy won the senior clubs medal and received the USA Gymnastics award for rhythmic gymnastics athlete of the year. NSR gymnast Camilla Feeley finished second all-around in the junior competition and won the junior clubs medal. NSR juniors Natalie Bourand and Dasha Baltovick qualified for the all-around finals in the junior competition. Juniors Karrine Denisova and Alexandra Ladan and senior Molly Isley also competed at the national championships in Louisville. The USA senior national group -- Kiana Eide, Alissa Kano, Natalie McGiffert, Jenny Rokhman, Monica Rokhman, and Kristen Shaldybin -- performed three exhibitions. USA Gymnastics named Natasha Klimouk coach of the year, but she was quick to say the award belongs to all the NSR coaches: Irina Korosteleva (who joined her for the award ceremony at the Yum Center), Dani Takova, and Angelina Yovcheva. “We are extremely proud of the entire team for doing their absolute best,” says Natasha. Congratulations to North Shore Rhythmics gymnasts, who earned 11 medals at the U.S Rhythmic Championships! Laura Zeng became the junior national champion and junior hoop champion, and Jazzy Kerber became the senior hoop champion and finished second overall among gymnasts 16 and older. Kerber also qualified to be one of two rhythmic gymnasts to represent the United States at the World Championships in Kiev this August. Five NSR girls earned “elite” status, finishing in the top 12 among juniors (gymnasts 15 and younger) and seniors (gymnasts 16 and older). Like Zeng and Kerber, NSR’s Camilla Feeley earned a spot on the national team. Evita Griskenas and Natalie Bourand advanced to the junior finals, and junior Alexandra Ladan and senior Ksenya Masterova also competed in level 10 events Thursday and Friday. Karina Denisova became the national level 7 champion, and Dasha Boltovik won the team gold medal for level 9. The USA senior national group, which trains with NSR at the Sachs Center, performed at the U.S. Rhythmic Championships in preparation for the World Championships. Senior group members are Sharon Dassouli, Alyssa Kano, Natalie McGiffert, Jennifer Rokhman, Monica Rokhman, and Laura Tutunikov. North Shore Rhythmics gymnasts just earned three spots on the USA junior national team and one spot on the USA senior national team. In the junior all-around competition, Laura Zeng placed second, Monica Rokhman placed fifth, and Jennifer Rokhman placed seventh. And in the senior all-around competition, NSR gymnast Jazzy Kerber placed third. Traditionally many NSR gymnasts qualify to go to the national championships, and this year was no exception. Other NSR competitors included Natalie Bourand, Liza Merenzon, Elina Nikerina, and Laura Tutunikov. The girls credited NSR coaches Natasha Klimouk, Dani Takova, and Angelina Yovcheva with training them to execute their beautiful routines with style and artistry. It was a banner weekend for North Shore Rhythmic gymnasts and coaches. At the Visa national championships in Saint Paul Aug. 17-20, the club – which trains gymnasts in Glenview and in Deerfield -- picked up the senior all-around title and two senior event titles, two junior event titles, and the coach-of-the-year award. NSR athletes earned one spot on the senior national team (for athletes ages 16 and older), three spots on the junior national team (for athletes ages 13 through 15), and the all-around title for athletes 12 and under. Congratulations to North Shore Rhythmics gymnasts! Fifteen NSR girls traveled to the Visa National Championships in Hartford, Conn., Aug. 13-14.
